Aivaras Mikutis confirmed his good condition again on Sunday. He was part of a 30 men escape group together with his teammates Madis Mihkels and Joonas Kurits. Finally it was Mikutis who got away with three other riders about 20km to go, one of the guys was dropped from the front and the chasing group split in two and finished for the 4th place. Madis was 5th and Joonas 12th of the race. Aivaras finished 3rd as he is known as a strong diesel and not for his sprinting qualities. The race was won by our ex-rider Rait Ärm (Equipe continental Groupama- FDJ ).
Jaan Kirsipuu (our Sports Director in the race) told that it looks like the boys are ready for the World Championships in Wollongong, Australia. Madis showed his punchy power on the climbs and the last year's Junion World Championships 3rd was happy about his condition before the main event of the season.
Team Ampler-Tartu2024 will have Madis Mihkels and Joonas Kurits from Estonia and Aivaras Mikutis from Lithuania in the MU road race. Joonas and Aivaras will race also the MU time trial.
Markus Knaapi from Finland and Alekss Krasts from Latvia aren't travelling to Australia as their national federation don't have the budget to organize the trip. They would be both capable of showing good results at the MU level.
